Personal Project - Indepth Analysis - Lin Tianmiao

This image was created by an artist called Lin Tianmiao, who did a project called focus in 2001. She was born in 1961 in China. She studied at Capital Normal University in China and also went to school in New York. Since the she has worked all over the work e.g Australia. But currently lives in Beijing. These image looks at the focus and playing around with it to get interested result. Having the image unfocused makes the objects distorted and make it more visually interesting. I also think that the image has been cropped down into the middle of the face just to make it a little bit easier to see what were looking at.

By having the close makes it easier to see but to also notice the marking that have been put above the image. There are little circle shapes that look like liquid that has now dried up above the image to create layers and texture. I think that creat a top layer it also bring your focus more onto the markings rather than the image there for makingthe background image again in less focus.

I think that the artist use a film camera and took the image out of focus. The lighting doesn't also look very good and a low filter would have been used. All these in though also impacted the focus of the image. Keeping the tones to a minimum.

I really like the idea of having image out of focus because it is different and I think that it allows the audience to take a second glance at the image to really find out what the image is underneath. Whilst taking double the time to look at your image, other thoughts and feelings may come into the audiences mind and there for change their opinion. Also due to taste and interpretations leads to different feedback. This has inspired in my own to create images intentionally out of focus in order to engage my audience and present images differently.
