Enhanced Image Project - More Experimentation

inspired by the photography Dan Mountford. To get this outcome I cut out a CCTV camera with black sugar paper related to my theme documentary. I then placed the black sugar paper over my photographic paper and shine my negative through.

Same process for this one. I particularly like this technique as you could block objects out of your image that you didn't want your audience to see.

This technique is called creative masking. This is where I put two negative in front of one another in the negative carrier and shone the light through. As you can see I have someone working in the library and the second is down a long corridor.

This was an experiment with the camera of taking an image intentionally out of focus. I really like this image.

Trying again with the highlighting technique.

Enhancement Image Project - Mindmap Of Final Outcome Film

Enhanced Image Project - Photo Batik

Photo Batik is when your material is placed on your already exposed paper and the put in to the developer.
This technique is used to block out certain things or object you don't want to be seen. I didn't really like using this effect as it was really messy and i found it hard to removed the vaseline after the image was developed.

A definition of a handmade negative is using different use of materials on a form of transparent sheet in your for the light to shine through.

For these handmade negative we cut a piece of transparent film roughly the same size as a negative carrier. you then choose your materials. I choose to use vaseline, washing up liquid salt and water. I resembled the material how i wanted them and then placed them into the negative carrier. I then tested different times roughly 3.0 seconds and then the traditional developing process. After I had done a couple of these I then went on to doing reversals which is placing a piece of photographic paper on top of a handmade negative you've already created. Again adjusting your times, mine were around 4.0 seconds and again using the traditional developing method.

Enhancement Project - Bleaching

For this bleaching effect. firstly you need to select the area you would like to keep. To secure them you paint over them with nail polish to make sure that part of the image is kept. When this has dried you the put your image in bleach. When you can see the image starting to turn you pull it out wearing protective gloves. After this has process is done you then wash it off and dry the image.

I got different effect with my digital colour images and my black and white darkroom ones. As you can see my digital ones just faded with the bleach there the key areas were just highlighted with the nail varnish. The effect work alot better with my black and white film ones and as i was washing off the bleach i could actually removed some of the image with the finger. I then went on to experiment with using an image i had dyed with food colouring. As you can see the nail varnish kept the parts with the food colouring. I then used a pbjects and covered in bleach and placed them onto the image.

I particularity enjoyed this technique as it was very experimental. You didn't quite know how you're image was going to turn out which made it all more exciting!

Enhancement Project - Solarisation

solar 2,0

solar 1,0

orginal image filter 5,0 9,0 secs aperture 11

For these image i used the technique solarisation. This is when you exposure your image to the light for the time you have already collected. place into the developer untill the image starts to slightly appear, quickly take it out. Then exposure to the light with no negative for a few seconds. I done two with two different light settings to compare the effect. In the future I would like to do this to all my image and maybe combine technique to get an interesting effect.

Own Experiments
Own experiments

For this project to continue our experimentation we looked at a previous artist Leslie David. From the images we looked at she uses paint to block certain parts of the images with bold colours. I tried the same technique with my own images. I particularly liked how my images came up ans you can see through the paint to see the image behind. In the future I would use more paint so you couldn't see through to the original image to make it visually more exciting.
